“[In The Dark] is all about listening in new ways” Time Out
For the past 16 years In The Dark has been supporting artists working with sound. We have done this through events, funding, training, and mentorship, while expanding creative and experimental audio storytelling to new audiences and cultural spaces.
“the next big thing in nights out” The Londonist
We are best known for our live listening events, held in packed venues throughout London – a bit like a cinema, but without the pictures. Over the years we have also had regular listening events in Bristol, Manchester, Lisbon, Sydney, Melbourne, Antwerp, Bournemouth, Belfast, and Berlin.
We have curated special events and installations for numerous festivals, galleries and creative institutions including Glastonbury, The V&A, The Barbican, The British Library and The Wellcome Collection.
In The Dark’s Events have been running for 16 years thanks to the work of many wonderful individuals. You can find a list of those involved, past and present, here >>
“bold and adventurous radio” The Guardian
We also work to support artists through grants, awards and training. Our Sound Bank Grant winning pieces have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4, RTE , KCRW, 99% Invisible, Third Coast Festival, and Third Ear while our students’ work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s Short Cuts, featured on Transom’s “Small, Random and Meaningful“ series, won the Charles Parker Prize and Hearsay Audio Festival Rising Award, amongst others.
