Meeting Karen (2016, unpublished)

Sometimes as audio producers we have funny interactions with people. Ultimately it’s a pretty strange job, dropping into a stranger’s life and asking them these personal, intimate questions, and expecting them to open up.

In 2016 the producer Nanna Hauge Kristensen had just recovered from cancer, but the recovery ended up causing the breakdown of her marriage. She moved out of the home she shared with her son’s father and felt a lot of guilt. So she wanted to find someone who had experienced something similar, and she was directed to Karen, who had a similar story. But, Nanna says: “Karen was not willing to share that story”.

The piece is in Danish with English subtitles. It has never been published anywhere for Karen’s privacy, so we will not be sharing a link.
