The In The Dark Audio Award is back! For the second year running, In The Dark is joining forces with Sheffield Doc/Fest, the UK’s leading documentary organisation and festival, to present an award specifically devoted to audio documentaries from around the world.
The In The Dark Audio Award highlights a new wave of global creativity and innovation in audio storytelling.
The winner will be chosen by a panel of international radio documentary and podcast makers:
Sherre DeLys (Producer, ABC)
Martina Castro (Co-founder, Radio Ambulante)
Boz Temple-Morris (Founder/Producer, Holy Mountain)
and will be chaired by Nina Garthwaite (Director, In The Dark, UK).
A Golden Age for Audio
At In The Dark, we believe that this is a golden age for telling stories through sound. Producers are discovering new ways to tell stories beyond the confines of traditional broadcasting. Audiences are discovering new ways to listen beyond the FM radio dial.
This award reflects this, and builds on In The Dark’s own expertise in promoting and curating audio storytelling over the last five years.
Sheffield Doc/Fest welcomes documentary in all its forms and on all platforms. Together we’re excited to explore the imagination and innovation in real stories coming through audio documentary across traditional radio as well as podcasts and other audio channels.
What we’re looking for
The award will recognise our favourite audio – work that is bold, compelling and inspiring. We are looking for work that demonstrates a spirit of adventure, whether it be in editing, storytelling, sound design, subject or presenting style (where appropriate).
Documentaries can be anything up to one hour, completed between 1st January 2014 and 2nd February 2015. We are inviting submissions from radio, podcast/online, live listening events and installations. Non English language pieces are welcome, as long as they are accompanied by an English translation script. Director’s cuts of broadcast work also welcome.
The three shortlisted works will form part of Sheffield Doc/Fest’s official screening selection. The award winner will be announced on XXXX June, as part of Sheffield Doc/Fest’s Official Awards Ceremony. The winner will receive a cheque for £1000.
In The Dark will also be teaming up with The Guardian to run a series of podcasts featuring some of our favorite work from the submissions.
